Since the mid-1970’s the Georgetown Food Bank has served our City’s hungry in South Seattle.  After the Society of St Vincent de Paul assumed responsibility for the Food Bank it was relocated to its current address of 5972 4th Avenue S in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.  Our Food Bank has been and continues to be a vital source of weekly food for our poor and homeless guests and their families.

“Everyone Eats Today” tells of our Vision and Mission in serving our guests.  No person is turned away.  During these difficult economic times we provide food to nearly 2,400 guests for almost 21,600 meals each week.  We are grateful that the donations from our donors are providing food for well-balanced diets of quality meat, fruit and vegetables.  In addition, donors provide canned goods and dry goods as well as the very special pastries and cookies!

We salute and thank our donors and volunteers for their commitment to serve and feed the poor and homeless.  Be a part of making certain “Everyone Eats Today”!

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the Food Bank.  Special recognition is being given to them through our new “Volunteer of the Month” award.

March – Victoria Domalis, Clothing Bank Coordinator extraordinaire

April – Kathleen Miller, Intake Hostess with the mostest

May – Leo Glover, the Candy Man

June – Richard ‘Dick’ Tosdale, “Every Pet Eats Today”

It requires 26 volunteers to serve our guests each day.  These 4 folks represent a core group of volunteers who are the best in Seattle!

In celebration of our new Baby Corner, the Food Bank hosted a Baby Boost Information Fair in conjunction with Solid Ground.  Nearly 100 pregnant women, mothers and guardians with infants and toddlers, and children visited 10 information booths.  Representatives from Lettuce Link, DSHS, the LeLeche League, Legal Services, St Vincent de Paul and more were on hand to help guests learn about support services available for young families.

Our new Baby Corner focuses on the immediate needs of infants and toddlers by providing diapers and formula (when available), baby food and clothing.  In addition it provides a supervised play area for young children while parents and guardians go through our grocery line.  Storytelling and coloring seem to highlight every child’s visit.  Our objective is simple – provide a safe, fun experience for our littlest guests.

Together with our community partners, the St Vincent de Paul Georgetown Food and Clothing Bank is making these improvements as another way of treating our guests with respect for their dignity.
